The New Euphrat
New Space
This is an exciting time of change for the Euphrat Museum of Art. In 2008, the Museum will open its doors to a brand new exhibition space housed within the to-be-constructed Performing Arts Center at De Anza College. The new Euphrat Museum will be a signature building with a prominent location and visibility from Stevens Creek Boulevard. In connection with a performance hall and art history classroom, it will form a Visual and Performing Art complex. This configuration will facilitate joint receptions, joint programming, connecting college and community users.

Artist's rendition of the new Visual and Performing Arts Center/Euphrat Museum

Designed with the expertise of Mark Cavagnero, Mark Cavagnero Associates, working with the project's DES Architects & Engineers, the interior will be a clean, modern art space, with track lighting and internet connections, flexible to serve a variety of art installations, lectures, and events. The galleries will have a view to Stevens Creek Boulevard, a garden patio, and a shared lobby. An Education/Preparator Room will enable student interns to work with museum professionals and will provide resources and development space for our educational programming including hands-on Teaching Tours. A garden patio will have multiple uses, as extended reception area and collaborative activity area. Offices, storage room, and covered delivery area provide the infrastructure for staff to borrow artwork and to develop comprehensive exhibitions.

While Measure E bond funding will provide for construction of the new Euphrat Museum of Art, it cannot cover specialized museum design or furnishings and equipment that will not be fixed and permanent to the structure. Your financial investment will be critical to the refurbishment and advancement of this De Anza College treasure.

New Direction
With this new building comes a vision for art and civic engagement. The Euphrat is currently planning a lecture series for 2006-2007 on Art and Civic Leadership. With the solid track record of our Arts & Schools Program, which provides over 32,000 student hours of instruction each year, the Euphrat plans to expand its reach into community art education, joining professional artists and students of all ages in using art as part of the community building process. Working together, we will identify our shared values and creatively help to address the issues of our community. Join us by supporting our Arts Venture Fund to cover initiatives in this direction.
