About Me

"For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
-George Eliot, Middlemarch

Biography

This is my tenth year teaching at De Anza. I love working with De Anza students and I'm thrilled to be a part of the De Anza community.

My pedagogical goal is to help students build strong reading, writing, and thinking skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom. In my writing (EWRT) classes,

  • we read and discuss engaging texts, including sci-fi novels, Hamilton: An American Musical, and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
  • we explore in writing topics such as racism, community, social justice, LGBTQ experience, and human well-being.
  • I prepare students for the writing they will need to succeed at De Anza, at transfer institutions, and in life after college.
  • I encourage students to understand reading and writing in relation to communities outside of the classroom.

If this sounds like fun, then sign up for an EWRT class with me!

I also teach English literature. In my ELIT classes, the goal is for students to encounter new texts and to learn how to read analytically--without ever losing sight of the pleasures that can be found in literature.
