Prerequisites

Many courses require the student to have completed prerequisites in order to enroll. These prerequisites are listed under each course description in the on-line schedule, the catalog and the printed Schedule of Classes.

Before registering, you must call the Assessment Office at (408) 864-8416 or (408) 864-8717 before your date and time to register so that the Assessment Office can verify that you have satisfied necessary prerequisites before you enroll in the following classes: Chemistry 1A; English 1A, 1B, 1C, 100A, 150, 100B and 160; LART 100, 170 and 200; any English as a Second Language (ESL) course; Reading 100 and 101, 201 and 202; any math course; and Biology 6A, 6B, 6C, 40A, 40B, 40C, 45 and 26.

It is emphasized that you must call the Assessment Center before you enroll. Do not wait until the last minute to call for prerequisite verification because there may not be sufficient time to clear you for the class you want prior to your registration time.

The college has the authority to drop you from any course if you have not met the necessary prerequisites. Any prerequisite or corequisite may be challenged if a student believes that state regulations are being violated. Challenges must be filed no later than 10 working days prior to the student's date to register if the matter is to be decided in a timely manner.
