Eligibility

All students are welcome to take ONE honors course before applying to the Honors Program. This is a wonderful way to explore the program and determine if you would like to take more honors courses. Note: You are not allowed to take more than one honors course if you are not an active member of the program. The Honors Program coordinator tracks enrollment in honors courses.

In order to qualify for the program, you need to be eligible for EWRT 1A**

and you also need to meet ONE of the following requirements:

•  A 3.3 GPA in high school or in 15 units of UC transferable college courses, or
• an SAT Verbal score of 620 if you took the test before March 2005 or a combined Critical Reading and Writing score of 1240 if you took the test after March 2005, or
• ACT English score of 25 points

NOTE: You must provide verification of the criteria you are using to qualify for the program, for example, you must provide an unofficial copy of your high school or college transcript showing your GPA or an unofficial copy of your test results from ACT or SAT.

 

Candidates who do not meet the eligibility requirements are still encouraged to contact the Honors Coordinator to discuss options for participation in the program.


** To prove eligibility for EWRT1A, you must provide the results of the De Anza Basic Skills placement test, unless you have already taken EWRT1A and passed, or unless you have already taken EWRT100 and passed, or unless you have one of the following qualifying ACT or SAT scores:

• SAT Verbal score of at least 510 (or 430 if you took the test before April 1995 )
• ACT English score of at least 22 
• De Anza English test scores of at least: Reading 32 and Writing 58
