ESL Placement Test

This test consists of a 30-minute timed writing sample and a one-hour timed multiple choice reading comprehension test.  The multiple choice test is administered on a computer.

Testing is offered on drop-in basis on days and times listed below.  Students may take the ESL Test once per year. (minimum 12 months between tests)  There are no appointments.

Students must bring photo ID, and know their De Anza 8-digit Student ID Number. Students are advised to test well in advance of registration.

ESL Placement Test Results  will be available approx. 4 to 6 wks after testing.

Who should take the test?

All English as a Second Language students who wish to register for any ESL course should test.  Students who have tested or completed ESL courses at other colleges ( including Foothill students) must test at De Anza unless they have completed a course equivalent to De Anza's ESL 5 with grade C or better.

What are the re-test policies?

• Students must wait minimum 1 year from previous test date to re-test in ESL.
• Students must wait for ESL Test  results before they are eligible to take the English Placement Test.
