How to Apply and Register: Steps for New and Former Students

Nuevos Estudiantes: Primeros Pasos para Matricularse

Step one. Apply and Join Our Listserv

Step two. Take Placement Tests
  • Depending on your educational goal and the number of college-level units you have completed, you may not need to take placement tests. Visit the Assessment and Placement Web site for more information. If needed, submit transcripts for course prerequisite clearance to the Assessment Center (located in the Student and Community Services Building).

Step three. Attend an Orientation

  • Enroll in Counseling 100: Orientation to College
  • New students who have not earned an A. A., A. S., or higher degree or who are not taking courses for personal enrichment, are required to take an Orientation to College (Coun 100) course. For summer session only: You cannot register for this class online. Download the registration form here. During the summer, this 1/2-unit course is usually offered over a four-day period. See the Schedule of Classes for dates and times this course is offered.

Step four. Register for Classes

Step five. Pay Your Fees

  • You will be informed of your fees during the online or phone registration process.
  • To calculate your fees ahead of time, use the Fee Calculation Worksheet online or in the printed Schedule of Classes.
  • Payment may be made online, by mail, our drop box, or in person.
  • Fees are due at the time of registration.
  • If you need financial assistance, contact Financial Aid.

Step six. Attend Classes

You must be at the first class meeting! Attendance at the first class meeting is required. If you do not attend the first class meeting, or if you are late, the instructor has the option to drop you from class to accommodate students on waiting lists. However, it is your responsibility to officially drop classes in which you no longer wish to be enrolled. If a class is not dropped within the first two weeks of the Fall, Winter or Spring quarters, you will be charged for the class and may receive a failing (F) grade.
